The purpose behind ADID
Why ADID? Digital environments provide many ways to create and customise identities. Much less is known about whether an evolving digital identity can become part of a longer developmental process.
Why ADID matters for research is that users may observe how their actions gradually change a digital representation, reflect on these changes and decide what they mean.
What ADID is not
The purpose is to create conditions in which change can be observed, interpreted and studied, not to define who the user is. Therefore, why ADID exists is methodological and developmental rather than diagnostic.
Also, ADID connects earlier cyberpsychology work on digital identity and self-presence with a simulation-based research design.
